JetBrains, the makers of popular IDEs like IntelliJ IDEA and PyCharm, have released RustRover, a fully dedicated integrated development environment (IDE) for the Rust programming language. After months in early access, RustRover is now available to the public, reflecting JetBrains’ commitment to supporting modern systems programming languages.
Rust has seen explosive growth in recent years thanks to its combination of memory safety, performance, and modern syntax. Major tech companies like Microsoft, Google, Meta, and Amazon are increasingly adopting Rust for infrastructure, operating systems, and even embedded development.
However, the Rust developer experience—especially in terms of tooling and IDE support—has lagged behind other languages. JetBrains aims to fix that with RustRover.
