Google Pixel 11 Prices Set to Rise as Memory Costs Pressure Smartphone Market

Google has confirmed it will be adjusting prices on upcoming Pixel devices, including the Pixel 11 series, as the tech giant grapples with soaring prices of memory components impacting the tech industry worldwide. The announcement comes ahead of Google’s expected Pixel hardware event where the company is expected to officially announce its next generation smartphones.

Google's Vice President of Devices and Services, Shakil Barkat, said the company absorbed rising supplier costs for as long as it could, but said changing market conditions meant price changes were unavoidable. The company said that the price of Future Pixel will be dynamically adjusted according to supply conditions.

The expected changes might not just affect the Pixel 11 lineup but other devices in Google’s hardware lineup including the Pixel Watch products. Exact pricing is not yet known, but reports suggest that select Pixel devices could see prices rise by around $100 compared to previous generations.

The other big reason is that memory prices are going through the roof, and so Google is also changing its pricing. Google executives pointed to data that showed the cost of 1GB of RAM reportedly skyrocketing from about $2.80 in 2025 to about $12 in 2026.

“Memory supply issues are creating unprecedented pressure across the entire consumer electronics industry, making it difficult for manufacturers to sustain previous pricing strategies,” Google said. The company said it has tried to shield customers from those increases, but could no longer absorb the additional expenses.

The memory crunch has been blamed on the rising demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure which has spurred on the race for advanced semiconductor components and memory supplies. Smartphone makers are being squeezed by rising component costs as firms focus on developing AI.

Some Pixel 11 models are also expected to come with lower memory configurations as the more expensive Pixel prices loom.

Leaks hint that the Pixel 11 Pro could go from 16GB of RAM of the previous generation to 12GB of RAM, but at a price hike. The move has sparked concerns among buyers who expect better specifications with higher prices, not hardware cuts.

The reduction in hardware requirements does not equate to a reduction in performance, Google said. The company said that it is working on optimisation at the Android level so that the OS and apps are able to run efficiently with lesser RAM.

The company called it a “focused effort” to improve memory management on Android so devices can keep up with strong performance while using less hardware. Google said it had advantages in its combination of artificial intelligence, software development and custom silicon, which could help optimise device performance.

Google said it will continue to focus on delivering competitive value across the Pixel line even as it expects to raise prices. Promotional deals, trade-in programs and bundled services such as Google One subscriptions will still play a key role in helping make Pixel devices affordable, said the company.

Google’s move is part of a broader trend in the smartphone industry as manufacturers seek to offer more sophisticated AI-powered features, but also grapple with rising production costs. Software improvements should help offset some of the pressure from rising hardware costs.

But the move could threaten the Pixel's position in the premium smartphone market. There are models that have less RAM than previous generations, making buyers question whether the higher prices are worth it.

Google is expected to officially announce the Pixel 11 series at its upcoming hardware event scheduled for August 12. The line-up is said to consist of multiple models including Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold.

The new devices are expected to be heavy on artificial intelligence capabilities, improved software integration and Google's next-gen Tensor platform. But pricing will likely be one of the biggest talking points following confirmation that hardware costs are rising.

Industry observers say Google will need to convince consumers that the Pixel 11 lineup offers enough new features to justify the higher prices, especially as smartphone buyers are paying more for their phones across the board.

So the Pixel 11 launch will be a test of whether Google’s software-first and AI-focused approach can keep customers interested in the face of rising costs and possible hardware compromises.
